Embark Studios will launch a limited matchmaking test for Arc Raiders next month. The trial introduces an optional cooperative setting that disables combat between players.
- Testing duration: October 13 to October 20, 2026.
- User base split: 37 percent cooperative, 27 percent mixed, and 34 percent pure PvP.
- Demand metric: 51 percent requested a dedicated PvE option.
- Restricted conditions: Night Raids, Hidden Bunker, Locked Gate, and Frigate.
Matchmaking rules and economy adjustments
The matchmaking toggle supports solos, duos, and trios. Squads in this environment cannot inflict damage on other participants. Engaging in these sessions does not alter standard competitive ratings.
Loot items collected under these rules carry reduced value. The developer announced the upcoming trial format directly to players:
"To make a long story short, we’re going to be running a test with a PvE matchmaking toggle. This is how it will work:"

Developer telemetry and mode testing
The team reviewed activity logs before designing the alternate playlist. The developers addressed user playstyles in their statement:
"We have to respect that some players want to enjoy the game in their own way, and we can’t ignore what the data is telling us,"

The studio also acknowledged structural uncertainties regarding the format:
"It’s possible that this will not work"

Future playlist considerations
The studio outlined long-term expectations for the experimental mechanics:
"This test is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future, but take this as an indication that we are seriously considering it. We don’t yet know how the potential future version of this setting might look. It’s plausible that any future version could look very different from what you experience in the beta test."

The temporary toggle will shut down at the conclusion of the test. A permanent cooperative mode is not confirmed.
