Epic Games released a preview build of its redesigned store launcher for Windows, Mac, and Linux, marking the first time the client officially supports Linux. The company developed the application using generative artificial intelligence tools.

  • Available to download at launcher.epicgames.com
  • Boots on a cold start 46 percent faster than Steam
  • Restores from the system tray to the library 14 percent faster than Steam
  • Includes voice chat, customizable library views, faster filtering, and support for importing shortcuts from Steam and other clients

Development Process

Epic admitted in a blog post that the application relied on generative artificial intelligence, a practice known as vibe coding.

"Programming is hard. So, instead of doing that, we vibe coded a new Epic Games Launcher that’s way faster and more responsive than the current one, and has a new look"

Epic Games Store Team, Development Team

"We have used AI as a tool as part of our development process"

Martin Keely, Vice President and General Manager of Epic Games Store

Company Strategy

The preview build was written and reviewed from the ground up on a new architecture.

"We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration."

Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO
