Fatih Akin’s new feature film Ghost Song will open the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival, holding its world premiere on September 18 at the Kursaal following the opening ceremony. The screening also launches the movie into the event's main competition, marking the first time Akin has competed for the Golden Shell in his career. The festival runs from September 18 to 26.
Plot and Cast
The film stars Mariam Dawoud, Eren M. Güvercin, Carlotta von Falkenhayn, and Gabriel-Winner Amorim. Its narrative centers on Farasha, a character who tragically dies on the exact night she and Faris fall in love. The romance subsequently continues to unfold within Faris's dreams.
Production and Sales
Ghost Song is produced by Bombero International and Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, with Rialto Film attached as a co-producer. International sales for the title are handled by Beta Cinema.
The selection places Akin's latest directorial effort at the forefront of the Basque event's competition slate, giving the German-Turkish filmmaker an immediate platform to vie for the festival's top prize as the official competition gets underway on opening night.
