Insomniac Games clarified how the clothing wear and regeneration system works in Marvel's Wolverine following questions raised by its recent gameplay demo. The studio confirmed that the restoration of Logan's clothing is a deliberate design decision to balance cumulative damage with the title's visual presentation.

Technical decision for extended missions

Mike Fitzgerald, technology director of Insomniac Games, and Jess Reiner-Reed, senior project manager, explained that automatic tissue repair prevents the protagonist from ending up without clothing after extensive combat. Without this scheduled restoration, the non-stop accumulation of cuts, impacts, and gunshots would degrade any outfit until Logan was left in rags halfway through a level, affecting the intended artistic direction of the story's development.

Fluid simulation and dynamic wear

The studio implemented a specific damage system tailored to each suit available in the game. This mechanic operates in parallel with a proprietary real-time fluid simulation technology for blood particles, which dynamically interact with the geometry of the characters, environmental surfaces, and bodies of water.

The system will continuously record tears and splatters during melee engagements, but will reset the clothing status at certain points in the progress. This technical solution allows the violence and immediate physical wear and tear in combat to be displayed without compromising the aesthetic continuity or legibility of the character in subsequent cinematic sequences.
