Disney is expanding the Star Wars franchise across interactive digital platforms this August through a new Fortnite gameplay mode and the vertical-scroll adaptation of selected Star Wars: Visions comic titles on WEBTOON.
Smugglers' Gambit Integrates Theme Parks
Releasing August 16, Smugglers' Gambit brings a dedicated co-op quest island into Fortnite. The experience directly integrates visual assets and mission parameters from Disney's Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run theme park ride, which operates on Epic Games' Unreal Engine. Gameplay centers on cooperative space combat and pirate engagements, offering unlockable cosmetics upon completion. The launch also introduces cross-platform progression between physical Disney park attractions and the game, granting exclusive in-game Fortnite items to park visitors who complete specific objectives on the Smugglers Run ride.
Visions Comics Debut on WEBTOON
Alongside the gaming expansion, Marvel and WEBTOON announced at D23 that two Star Wars: Visions comic issues are being adapted into vertical-scroll digital formats. The project adapts Peach Momoko's The Followers of Ankok and Takashi Okazaki's The Ronin and the Droid, reformatting the original print layouts to support vertical reading on iOS and Android devices via the WEBTOON app.
These initiatives establish a direct progression pipeline between Disney's physical theme park attractions and Fortnite's digital ecosystem, while securing mobile-optimized distribution channels for standalone Star Wars comic narratives.
