Epic Games and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars: Smuggler's Gambit, a multiplayer PvE experience built in Unreal Engine for Fortnite that bridges digital gameplay with physical Disney theme parks.
Gameplay and Cooperative Mechanics
The experience is anchored on the planet Ord Ryla around the Scuttled Sparrow ship, serving as the central hub for players. Smuggler's Gambit divides players into three distinct classes—Pilots, Gunners, and Engineers—mirroring the operational roles found in the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride.
Players undertake cooperative missions against stormtroopers, utilizing an integrated economy with weapon and item vendors to upgrade their gear. Voice actor Jim Cummings returns to reprise his role as the fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who guides players through the operations from the hub.
Disney Park Integration
The project establishes a direct technological bridge between Fortnite and physical Disney theme parks. Players can link their Epic Games accounts with their MyDisney accounts. This integration unlocks special features and cross-platform rewards at the actual theme park attraction, marking a functional convergence of live-service gaming infrastructure and physical entertainment venues.
The launch of Smuggler's Gambit inside Fortnite provides direct access to cooperative PvE progression, gear economies, and park-linked rewards without requiring a standalone game client.
