Claremont argued that Wolverine's past should have remained an un-undoable one-shot mystery rather than receiving a definitive, serialized exposition. During the discussion, he noted that he maintains his own internal version of the character's early history that predates the official Marvel publication, rendering subsequent canonical additions irrelevant to his personal creative framework.
Creator Boundaries and Continuity
Simonson and Nicieza expanded on Claremont's remarks by sharing a broader industry practice common among long-running comic creators. Both writers confirmed they intentionally avoid reading successor runs on titles they previously handled. They cited the prevention of professional jealousy, frustration, or creative friction as the primary motivator for ignoring subsequent changes to their foundational lore.
