The Walt Disney Company announced a three-part miniseries starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, scheduled for release on Disney+ in February 2027. Director Jon Favreau revealed the project at the D23 convention, confirming a production format that combines live-action footage with traditional hand-drawn animation.
Production and Creative Team
The hybrid series relies on veteran Disney animators recruited specifically for the project to execute the hand-drawn sequences, preserving the character's 1920s aesthetic. Production utilized practical sets, including on-location filming at Disneyland's Main Street Magic Shop.
Cast and Characters
The live-action segments feature an ensemble cast consisting of Kathryn Hahn, Amy Sedaris, Al Madrigal, and Steve Martin. Their performances interact directly with the animated title character, marking the first time the historic IP anchors a narrative production of this scale since Disney reacquired the rights from NBCUniversal in 2006.
The February 2027 premiere places the historic character back in active rotation, utilizing a hybrid format to bridge archival animation techniques with modern live-action production infrastructure.
