Developer Masangsoft has launched the cult classic third-person action game Gunz the Duel on Steam, but the game's modern return faces immediate backlash over severe technical failures and undeclared generative AI allegations.
Severe Technical and Cheating Issues
Originally released by MAIET Entertainment in 2006, the title's resurrection is plagued by widespread performance problems. Players logging into the Steam version report severe network instability, including matches reaching 2,000 ping, highly inconsistent hit detection, and broken in-game events. Furthermore, basic security measures appear absent, allowing invulnerable hackers to dominate matches freely. Masangsoft has deployed minor server maintenance to address the networking issues, but the development team remains entirely silent on Discord while community frustration mounts.
UI and AI Content Accusations
Beyond network and server failures, the PC release has drawn heavy criticism for its production values and asset sourcing. The game features an overhauled user interface that users have criticized as stripped-down and uninspired. Simultaneously, players have identified suspected generative AI content integrated into the game's updated assets, pointing to a lack of proper transparency and required Steam disclosures regarding synthetic media.
These concurrent controversies mean that anyone downloading the current Steam version will experience a degraded, unstable experience that bears little resemblance to the 2006 original, pending any future patches from Masangsoft.
