Nintendo has filed a new trademark for the defunct mobile puzzle game Dr. Mario World, coinciding with the digital release of Seed Sparkle Lab's cozy simulation game Starsand Island on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The trademark filing for Dr. Mario World arrives nearly five years after Nintendo officially shut down the mobile title in October 2021. Nintendo has not confirmed a release date, platform adaptation, or new project associated with the filing. Trademark renewals and new applications of this nature frequently occur for IP protection rather than immediate commercial deployment, leaving the future status of the franchise uncertain.
Starsand Island Deployment
While the Dr. Mario IP remains in administrative review, the Nintendo Switch 2 library has expanded with the debut of Starsand Island. Seed Sparkle Lab launched version 1.0 of the life simulation title on the Nintendo eShop, carrying a feature set that includes four-player online multiplayer, agriculture mechanics, fishing systems, DIY construction, exploration, and the seasonal Autumn Pumpkin Carnival event.
The digital release is the first phase of the game's deployment on the current-generation hardware. A physical retail edition of Starsand Island is scheduled to arrive in November, broadening the distribution model for the platform's early catalog of third-party cozy simulation titles.
