Developer Mega Crit has announced that Slay the Spire 2 will transition from its current bi-weekly update cadence to focus on major content additions, including a new playable character, an alternative Act Two zone, and experimental game modes.
Development Timeline and Beta Branch
The studio confirmed that at least a month will pass before any of the new major content reaches the beta branch. This delay stems from an upcoming team break scheduled for the end of August combined with the shift in development focus toward larger patches. Meanwhile, patch 0.111.0 has gone live on the beta branch, introducing immediate balance adjustments and class reworks.
Design Decisions and Roadmap
Co-founder Casey Yano clarified several design choices regarding the game's future systems. Ascension 10 will likely serve as the highest difficulty tier rather than scaling up to Ascension 20, a decision intended to prevent a tedious grind. Additionally, card enchantments will not be stackable in order to preserve core deckbuilding mechanics, and Steam Achievements are formally planned for the 1.0 release.
For players, this shift means the beta branch will receive fewer frequent patches as development resources redirect toward substantial, self-contained content drops rather than small piecemeal updates.
